Making Story Soup

One of the joys of being a youth librarian is visiting schools.  I have a couple of chants that I have used with larger groups of kids that have worked well. One is Making Story Soup. 

Making Story Soup is an interactive chant I learned at a workshop years ago.  If you have a pot large enough to hide the book inside, that will add to the fun.  If not, hide the book under your chair or behind the pot you are using.  A large Halloween cauldron works well, too.  The audience can be encouraged to chant along with the repeated refrain.  You can also make it interactive by passing out the ingredients to the children for them to bring when that particular ingredient is mentioned.

You can use toy or plastic veggies for the chant, but if you don't have any at hand, you can print out this PDF.  It also include the words for the chant.
