Picture Book Promos

Hot Rod Hamster by Cynthia Lord; pictures by Derek Anderson

It’s race day, and this little hamster is determined to win! Told in a rhyming rhythm, this story is bound to delight the youngest of car enthusiasts as, with the help of a junkyard gang of rodents and a bulldog, the Hamster picks out the pieces needed to make his hot rod the fastest in the race.

Anderson's illustrations are adorable and fun, adding to what is already a great read-aloud. Be sure to pay attention the end and title pages, as the story really begins there.

All Things Bright and Beautiful illustrated by Ashley Bryan

Bryan has taken another classic hymn and illustrated it with beautiful cut paper collages. With amazing detail, he captures each lyric with a multicultural flare.

I honestly can’t say enough wonderful things about Bryan’s work. I am always awestruck by the beauty he designs using only colored paper and an old pair of his mother’s embroidery scissors. He is truly a treasure to the children’s picture book world.
