Jo Beverley – Lord of Midnight
This book takes place in the 1100s in the days where the men were in charge, the women were property, and everyone did as the king commanded.
The gentleman of the novel comes to take over a home that the king has given him including contents. These contents also include three maidens and the king has commended that he marry one of them to seal the deal. His bride is quickly selected and the two fall in love. The only issue between them is a secret that he has, and it quickly casts a shadow over their marriage that she is not sure she can get over.
Overall, I quite enjoyed the book and was interested in how it would resolve itself. This is a book that I would recommend to those who enjoy romance novels but want one that is quite as predictable as others. I picked this up at a book exchange and planned to exchange it back, but am debating keeping it to give to someone that I know enjoys romance.
