Baby, it's cold outside

Tiffany, now thirteen, is still in the mountains training to be a witch. After inadvertently joining in on the Morris Dance, a traditional dance to welcome winter, Tiffany finds that she has a new suitor: The Wintersmith – the spirit of winter.

In hopes of winning Tiffany’s heart, the Wintersmith attempts to become human. Meanwhile, he tries to impress Tiffany with icy gifts, such as snowflakes and icebergs made in her image. Tiffany is conflicted by the Wintersmith’s actions: pleased by the attention, yet worried about the effects they are having on the world.

The Mac Nac Feegles. They are awesome. I rarely read a passage about them that didn’t make me laugh out loud.

Tiffany Aching. She’s a strong young woman, but still has her doubts and insecurities. This is what makes her seem realistic.

Pratchett does a fantastic job of building a world that is so similar to our own.

Did I mention that I love the Mac Nac Feegles?

I listened to the audiobook for this title. The music that marked the end of each disc did not fit the series, sounding too modern for the setting.

which witch is which?

A hat full of sky: the continuing adventures of Tiffany Aching and the Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett (audio)

It has been a couple of years since Tiffany Aching defeated the Queen of the Elves and she is leaving home to learn how to be a witch. Under the tutelage of Miss Level, Tiffany finds witching to be mostly dull, thankless tasks. Her life doesn’t stay boring for long, as the Nac Mac Feegles arrive just in time to help with a little problem Tiffany has acquired: An ancient invisible creature has taken possession of her body and mind. Can Tiffany be the first to survive possession by a hiver?

The Nac Mac Feegles make me laugh out loud. They are by far my favorite part of this series of books.

Tiffany, though young, is a strong female character.
