I recently decided I couldn't take any more snow. Since I have no control over the weather, I did the only thing I could do. I switched our winter themed bulletin board to a spring one.
I feel a little happier already. Now if only the snowy weather would go away until December!

The idea for this board came from here.

I dig it, do you?
Summer Reading is nearly here! My coworker, Brindi, and I spent last Friday afternoon putting together our "tree" board. About a year ago, Brindi made a tree out of cardboard. It has been in the corner our wall of bulletin boards ever since then. We collaborate on the board for a seasonal display. Since this year's Summer Reading Program (SRP) theme is Dig into Reading!, we decided to make an underground scene. Or, a partial one.
We made the tree a bush. All those leaves? They came from the poet-tree I made in April. I cut a shovel blade out of a cardboard and covered it with aluminum foil. The handle was made out of thinner cardboard and painted with brown tempera.
I think this might be my favorite board so far.
Last week Brindi and I also had a Pirates and Princesses Party for preschoolers. (How's that for some alliteration?). One of our crafts was a pirate hat. Of course we needed a model for the hat. He is going to be the branch's mascot for the summer. We call him The Dread Pirate Captain Greybeard!

A Poet-tree
At one of my system's branches we have a very long wall of bulletin boards. Since this is the location where my office is, I try to help the children's librarian put together some of the boards. Since it is National Poetry Month, I made a poet-tree.
Pay no attention to the rainbow border. It was only there for the previous decoration.
A couple of closeups of the poems.
Nearly finished!
All done! Or nearly so. I may add another poem on the right side. There are so many leaves there because I wanted to cover up the edge of the paper.

Bulletin Boards and fall programming
As Summer Reading Club is coming to it's end, it is time for me to focus on fall programming...and to change all those blasted bulletin boards! Although SRC doesn’t technically end until tomorrow, I started a little early, and changed one of my boards today. This is the easiest one of all, as it doesn’t require me to stand sideways on a ladder and use countless pins, bruising my fingertip in the process.
Throughout the month of August, we will be showing 13 movies at this particular branch. Of those 13 movies, 11 are animated and 8 are specifically for children. Due to this, we all calling the month of programming “Animated August”.
Here is the board I completed today, which lists all of the children's movies:
