Bookmans Does Banned Books

When I look at the list of Frequently Challenged Books, I am reminded of how lucky I was in my childhood reading.  So many of the titles on the list are books I read when I was young.  My parents never censored my reading.  For that I am thankful.

These videos are from Bookmans.  Look at the titles each reader is holding.  Those are books often found on the censor’s chopping block.

I'm with the Banned

It's Banned Books Week - a time when bibliophiles celebrate the freedom to read whatever we choose. For over thirty years, librarians, educators, booksellers and others have united to highlight the challenges against books.  Every decade, thousands of book challenges, from classics, such as To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, to more recently published books, such as The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, are reported to the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom.  From these reports, they assemble a list of the top ten most frequently challenged books.  While many titles are censored, not all are reported.

Throughout this week I will share videos, lists, and other resources pertaining to Banned Books Week.  To start, here is a video of Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson reading And Tango Makes Three.
