Hot seat

Siblings Carter and Sadie Kane return in the sequel to The Red Pyramid.

Just months after defeating Egyptian god Set, the Kane siblings embark on another dangerous adventure. The serpent of chaos, Apophis, is slowly breaking out of his prison. The only way to keep him from escaping and plunging the world into darkness and chaos is by finding Ra. Their biggest problem? No one knows where the powerful god is.

Likes:
The Kane Chronicles, Book Two: The Throne of FireAs with Riordan’s Percy Jackson series, this series is sure to spark an interest in Ancient Egyptian mythology.

Full of adventure, making the story a fast paced read.

Sadie and Cater are siblings. They act like siblings – disagreeing and bickering often, but still caring and worrying about one another.

Both characters have their flaws and their self-doubts, yet they are also strong, well-adjusted children (considering what they’ve been through!).

The Kane Chronicles

Last night I finished the first book in Rick Riordan’s new series, The Kane Chronicles – The Red Pyramid.

While Carter Kane travels around the world with their Egyptologist father, his sister Sadie lives in London with their maternal grandparents. The siblings only see one another twice a year. When their father takes them to the British Museum, the last thing they expect is that he will disappear while summoning ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses.

The duo find themselves on the run, trying to save their father and learning lots of surprising things about their family history and who they really are.

This is another excellent youth novel by the author of the Percy Jackson series. The story is told in first person by both Carter and Sadie, each having chapters of their own. Full of action and Egyptian mythology, this story is sure to spark the interest of those who love the Percy Jackson series.
